It's finally time for our new Masjid, alhamdulillah!
Kanata’s Muslim community has spent over 15 years renting facilities such as community centres, churches and schools for prayers, events and evening & weekend schools. A small rental Mosalla (prayer spot) was used for daily prayers and limited gatherings until 2019, when we finally moved into one of the existing buildings on our new property.
With Allah’s Grace, we’ve tried our best to organize Friday & Taraweeh prayers, run schools for children, organize youth programs, host social events, do outreach, engage with the media, offer family support & spiritual counsel and more – all without a permanent home.
Before the pandemic, we were at our seventh Friday prayer rental location and were hosting activities at four different rental locations.
Now, more than ever:
- Our children & youth need a masjid and centre they can build attachment with and that leaves them with positive values and memories.
- Our seniors need an accessible masjid and centre where they can worship and socialize.
- Our sisters deserve a welcoming masjid and centre where they feel included and respected.
Alhamdulillah, with the Muslim population growing rapidly in our area and with rising attendance, the need for a permanent home is acute and widely recognized.

After a long search, we have acquired a beautiful and centrally-located 2-acre property as well as another 2-acre revenue-generating property beside it, alhamdulillah! Click here to learn more.
As of Spring 2024, we are ready to start construction on a new 27,000 sq. ft. purpose-built masjid and centre, alhamdulillah. Work will begin soon after the city removes winter load restrictions on heavy trucks (expected by mid-May), Insha Allah.
