Sadly, a young 19-year-old sister from our community was attacked violently on OC Transpo bus 63 on Monday afternoon in Kanata. The suspect allegedly slapped her loudly, whispered an Islamophobic slur, and threatened to smash her face through the window and kill her. The suspect got off at the Penfield/Teron stop before he could be apprehended. Witnesses report that the suspect has exhibited hateful behaviour in the past.

We recognize that many members of our community, particularly sisters, are deeply concerned and shaken after this incident. We will never stay silent in the face of such violence, especially against our sisters.

Please be sure to join our Community Solidarity Event to reclaim our safety and send a message of strength and resilience, Insha Allah. We ask each member of our community – brothers and sisters, young and old –  to join. Your presence is vital to standing up against such hate and violence against our sisters and ensuring we don’t succumb to fear. The event is open to the public, so please bring your friends, neighbours, and colleagues.
