WHO ARE WE?
Kanata Muslim Association (KMA) is a not-for-profit, federally-registered charity serving Muslims and representing Islam in Ottawa West. Alhamdulillah, we are trusted by over 1000 satisfied donors. Click here to view our Canada Revenue Agency registered charity profile.
OUR COMMUNITY
Kanata is home to over 6,000 Muslims, making up about 8% of the population. Alhamdulillah, we’re incredibly blessed to have a diverse community, where men, women and children of various ethnic backgrounds and ages participate actively in prayers, community events, programs and initiatives. We are bonded together by faith and humanity, with respect and appreciation for individual and cultural differences.
Our community consists of many young families as well as seniors. Kanata is home to Canada’s largest tech park and many of our community members work in the technology sector and in the federal public service.
OUR HISTORY
Our organization was founded in 2004 to serve the needs of the growing Muslim community in Kanata. For over a decade, Friday prayers and activities were held in rented facilities such as churches, schools and community centres. Alhamdulillah, we finally purchased a property in 2016 for Kanata’s first Masjid. Our goal is to establish a dynamic, inclusive and sustainable purpose-built Masjid & Centre to serve the needs of our growing community.
